The Paradox of Productivity: Learning to Accept Limitations In his book "Four Thousand Weeks," Oliver Burkeman makes a significant point worth reflecting on: "...the core challenge of managing our limited time isn't about how to get everything done—that's never going to happen—but how to decide most wisely what not to do, and how to feel at peace about not doing it." This is especially so for those of us later in our careers. I recently spoke with a highly successful multitalented artist about crafting a five-year plan. While including many projects and goals may be tempting, I cautioned against overloading the plan. As we age, our time becomes increasingly precious, and focusing on what is truly achievable and impactful within our remaining years is crucial. The key to effective productivity lies not in attempting to accomplish everything but in strategically selecting the projects that align with our values and can potentially leave a lasting legacy. By prioritizing and streamlining our goals, we can invest our time and energy in endeavours that will yield the greatest satisfaction and make a meaningful difference in the world.
